Cecilia Paredes

Cecilia Paredes is a Peruvian-born multimedia artist whose work explores themes of identity, migration, memory, femininity, and humanity’s relationship with nature. Best known for her mesmerizing photographic self-portraits in which she camouflages her body into richly patterned botanical and textile backgrounds, Paredes blurs the boundaries between figure and landscape, creating poetic meditations on belonging, transformation, and the natural world.

Her multidisciplinary practice encompasses photography, performance, installation, sculpture, printmaking, and drawing. Paredes studied Fine Arts at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, the Cambridge Arts and Crafts School in England, and the Scuola del Nudo at the Academy of Fine  Arts in Rome.

Having lived and worked in Peru, Mexico, Italy, Costa Rica, and the United States, her nomadic life has profoundly informed her artistic vision. She currently lives and works between Philadelphia and Lima.

Her work has been exhibited internationally at museums and biennials throughout North and South America, Europe, and Asia, including the Venice Biennale, the Havana Biennial, the Moscow Museum of Modern Art, and numerous solo museum exhibitions. Her photographs and installations are held in public and private collections around the world, and she has received international recognition for her innovative fusion of performance, photography, and environmental themes.
